While gays and lesbians have become popular over the years on most reality shows, transgenders have not. In fact you can find at least one lesbian or gay person in every episode of MTV “The Real World” and Oxygens “Bad Girls Club” plus many others. However, Tyra Banks set the stage on season 11 when she casted the first transgender on her show, Isis. Isis has since had complete surgery and has become a famous model all around the world!
Ken Mok producer of ANTM said, “We want to redefine what beauty is.” He also added, “You can be tall, you can be short, you can be plus size, you can be transgender; you don’t have to be what the modeling industry says you have to be. That was one of Tyra’s original missions.”
Now, Dancing With The Stars has decided to take a leap and has signed their first transgender contestant as well. Season 13 of DWTS contestant Chaz Bono was actually born female. He is the child of celebrity parents Sunny and Cher and has become a known transgender advocate, actor, writer and a musician. While many were upset about the show casting a transgender Chaz had tons of supporters at the season debut show.
