The British singer one more achievement to celebrate-she has the biggest-selling album of the century.
Adele’s 21 hasn’t left the top 10 for 45 weeks and now it’s officially the biggest-selling album of the century, overtaking the late Amy Winehouse. The UK’s Official Charts Company confirmed that at the start of December, 21 had achieved sales of 3.4 million copies in less than a year.
Winehouse’s album took five years to get to its present 3.3 million sales level, and its success was partly due to the further sales boost following her death in July.Adele’s 21 is already the biggest-selling album of the year by far, with analysts predicting that the Rolling in the Deep singer will sell more than 15 million copies worldwide before the end of 2011.
Adele’s biggest-selling album was given a further push in the wake of six Grammy nominations last week, including album of the year. The singer, who has recently been recovering from voice surgery, thanked fans on her website:
“This has been the best year as it is but to end 2011 with this incredible achievement and honour is beyond anything I can express. This record has taken on a life of its own thanks to you. I made the record and you’ve made it what’s its become.”-the beauty tweeted adding she was “speechless.”
Adele’s 21 has sold over 4 million copies in the US. Congrats!
